Returning to the Edinburgh Fringe for her fifth year, Clare Sheppard talks to us about the fever of the 2012 Olympic Games, where it went and her fringe recommendations. The show she is performing  The London 2012 Games Closing Ceremony Closing Ceremony tells the story of a Glasgow women coming to terms with grief after losing a loved one during the Olympics.

How do you describe the show?

It’s about how we were all really nice to each other for the six weeks around the Olympics. We were supportive and lovely, expecting this legacy to carry on and then we got the Tories and now everyone is a bastard. It’s about trying to find that feeling and build it and bring it back.e

How can we get it back?

Compassion. We have to be good to each other and to stop vilifying the poor and realise that people need help and that we have the power to do that. Even if it’s just an hour of your year.

What would you like to say to the team who organised the Olympic Games Coverage?

Just well done on turning something that people thought was going to be really shit into something amazing. Well done for making everyone so nice for six weeks.

When did it click in your mind that the Olympics was gonna be good?

It was probably when I found myself watching sport for two or three hours when that was something that I never do. I was excited about the sport but more I was excited about people being together. It was event television, but in a way we could all get together and be a part of.

Who else would you recommend at the fringe?

If you can get in, I recommend No momentum by David Callaghan. Also Art is Easy by Richard Brown which has a similar message to Closing Ceremony  but done in a different way.
